Directors of the Kaneland Youth Orchestra
Ms. Dorothy Shaw has performed and taught professionally in the Chicagoland area for over 25 years. She has performed as concertmaster and soloist with Camerata Chicago, Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, toured Europe and Asia, and performed with Chicago Sinfonietta, now the Joffrey Ballet Orchestra, and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, having performed with Itzhak Perlman with that orchestra.
Dorothy’s teaching experience includes over 30 years experience in teaching students of all ages. She has maintained studios at Elmhurst College, Wheaton College, and owned and operated The Hall School of Music in Wheaton for 18 years.
Dorothy is immensely grateful to all of her teachers who have passed down priceless decades of violin pedagogy to her through their love and dedication to the art of music and perfection of their craft. She is indebted to these incredible artists for passing along to her an immense love of music and the inspiration to play and teach what she believes to be the most beautifully colorful, expressive and spiritual of instruments - the violin. It is her passion to “pass it on,” bringing the joy of making music to the next generation of budding young violinists.
Ms. Shaw will be working with the Apollo Strings and overseeing the Elementary program for Kaneland Youth Orchestra
